You arrive at corners with the same velocity -- the horse, flat-4 under hood is no different -- but you find more control and confidence from the time the wheel turns off-center to the time it returns. The suspension changes can take all the credit for the fun. The inch wheels, though they make for nice visuals, offer only negligible weight difference over the standard rolling stock.
